Plastic Ocean

I was actively involved with the Aquarium of the Pacific for sometime.  I worked very close with them when I worked at Cesar Chavez Elementary in Long Beach.  A message that we were always trying to get across to the students in lessons and in the aquariums exhibits is the pollution of plastic in the ocean.  This is why I found this video very powerful and moving.  I had seen many images of loads of plastic laying on the top of the water, but to see children playing in the water really gets to me.  My jaw dropped to see the amount of plastic that was in the bird's stomach and to hear it accounted for 15% of the birds body mass, which would equal to 12 kilos in a human.

In looking at ways that this video and similar ones can be used in e-learning a variety of ideas come to mind.  After watching the video having students come up with research ideas as to how to solve the problem of a plastic ocean.  This could be done on a wiki site.  Students could also create a blog to talk with other students across the country and hopefully world about how others have solved the problem of  plastic.  Students could also create infographs about plastic and the ocean to create a visual for others to see, like at school.
